Opinion on Yoga

Last Friday we did yoga in class and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how relaxed I felt after yoga. I felt refreshed and like a new person. I think what really got me relaxed was when we laid on the yoga mat and the Tibet music was playing in the background. But the best part of laying down was that lavender eye pillow. I don't know what it was about that scent but it just made me feel so calm and happy. I felt like i was laying on clouds. I was so relaxed that i actually fell asleep which was pretty funny to me because I only really sleep in class if I'm incredibly tired. But i really think the lavender made me feel so good. I felt like i was hypnotized with that music and that pillow on my eye as funny as that sounds. So  I really hope we do yoga more often because it felt really nice to just relax and just not think about anything.

  1. Hey Dan! I'm glad that you liked the yoga practice, and the key word is practice because you don't have to be perfect to participate. You seem like you have a pretty good handle on it but I know when I first started yoga I was wobbling and falling in every pose. But what I like about yoga is that you are always learning and improving no matter what, everyone from a newbie to an instructor. I also wish that we would do yoga more often. What a great way to sort of start our day! Yoga has a ton of health benefits including chronic back pain, depression, diabetes, stress, asthma, heart disease, weight loss, and it can even help cancer patients!
Something I read about yoga that really struck me was how it can make you more compassionate. It might sound odd, but if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. You said how relaxed you felt when you were lying on the mat, specifically with the lavender pillow on your eyes, and yoga is all about relaxation, connecting to your breath, and mindfulness. People who are relaxed don't get angry with people as fast, being mindful makes you think about the present, your actions, your thought, etc. So does it not make perfect sense that it will make you a nicer person and really feel what other people are feeling? Can you imagine if everybody in the world did at least 20 minutes of meditation each day? The world would be such a peaceful place, that is if it works according to plan and everyone is relaxed and not an inherent psycho. Okay maybe the world wouldn't be peaceful but at least you'll be! ( sorry you are my comment blog victim:))

  2. Danny, I completely agree with you and your views on yoga! And Giana, I was unaware of the health benefits you listed, so thank you for the extra knowledge! I also wish we did yoga more often because of how relaxed I felt but also because I felt much happier, like connecting with my breath somehow released me of all my stresses and gave me a fresh start. When we do yoga, I find myself staying in a good mood for the entire day, no matter the stress I had prior to yoga. While it is not easy, it is something that almost everyone can do and a great way to feel better. And, as Giana pointed out, you're always learning and improving. So, the more you do it, the better you are and you get the most out of it.
As for the music, I completely lose myself in the sound (of the tuning bowls, I think they're called?). I'm pretty sure they carry a frequency that relaxes our nerves, as crazy as that sounds, but I swear that music calms me down from the inside to the out.
Again, I completely and utterly hope we do yoga more often. Have a good day, guys!
