In my college English class we began to help two charities called Play it Forward and Operation Prom. IFor Play It Forward, people donate gently used sports equipment to people in need who can't play sports because they cannot afford the needed things to participate. Also, in Operation Prom girls can donate their old prom dresses so girls who cannot spend hundreds of dollars on a dress can have that special night people look forward to for their entire high school career.

Homeless People On Long Island (blog 6)
There are about 3.300 homeless people on Long Island. This is a 3.4 percent increase from 2010 (longislandreport.org). Many people think that just because this is Lonf Island, everyone that lives here has plenty of money and is in a very stable financial situation. However, this is very untrue. In our own backyard there are people struggling everyday to put food on the table and a roof over their families heads. While people on Long Island may be payed very high and inflated salaries, the cost of living here is much more than what people can afford anymore.
