Poverty in The United States(blog #6)

Most people do not acknowledge poverty in The United States even though over 46 million Americans are in poverty. Mostly states in the south such as Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, etc. have poverty levels above 17%.
I believe that America should stand up and make a difference to change these poverty levels. Back in the 1800's poverty levels were much higher than they are today especially among immigrants.
The most common measurement of poverty in America is the "poverty threshold" set by the government. The "poverty threshold" is people having the lack of goods or services commonly taken for granted by the general population. The government defines poverty based on the general income of the family.  The poverty level for a family of four in 2014 was $23,850 as a yearly income.
Poverty levels are much higher in cities rather than suburban areas. This is because most cities have a greater population of people and are more concentrated. The government should be doing more to help these poor people.

  1. The government will do something when the majority of Americans demand it. Let's hope your generation will make defeating poverty a priority.
