Although not widely spoken about in the media, Poverty continues to be a problem in the unites states. In 2013 the official poverty rate was 14.5 percent. This means that 45.3 million people are living in the United States with a yearly salary of $11,490 or within a family of four earning $23,550 a year.
Huge differences in Poverty are seen between genders, races and the age of people in America. A third of all families headed by single women are in poverty that's 15.6 million households. For African Americans the poverty rate is at 27.2 percent that means 11 million African Americans are currently living under the poverty line. The Hispanic poverty rate is 23.5 percent, and only 9.9 percent of white Americans are in poverty
