Rotunda Project

I chose to do the blog report on the child marriage project.  This was a very informative and elaborate display and it quickly captured my attention.  I liked the way it was set up because it included both visual and textual information.  The theme of the project is such a sad and horrific one and this group was able to use that to persuade the audience of their position on this issue.  I cant believe that this is still going on the world today.  It is mind boggling that as American girls play and make friends, girls in other countries are being married to men often many times their own age.  This would be more than illegal in the U.S. but yet it continues in other countries.  How can we allow this?

This is such a horrible topic in many ways.  The details of this situation are even more disturbing. First of all, the young girls are forced to give up all their dreams and life plans and basically become servants for their husbands.  In addition, they often face multiple kinds of abuse and are at a higher risk of getting diseases.  Overall they have a much higher death rate than regular girls.  But for me, the most sad and horrific part was the number 70,000.  This number represents the amount of these girls that die each year in childbirth, mainly because their young bodies are not yet ready for this task thrust upon them.  This has to stop. Plan Uk and other organizations are working together to stop this horror but until it is completely gone, they are not doing enough.  Whoever did this project did a great job of informing as well as representing visually this disgusting global issue.
