Kathe Kollowitz- Woman Thinking

This is a very famous piece by Kathe Kollowitz titled Woman Thinking. I think that this piece speaks volumes to people all around the world. Kathe lost her son, Peter, in war causing her to fall into a deep depression. As I analyzed this piece, I recognized that the very pronounced cheek bones and deeply sunken in eyes, which all showed the distress that Kathe was trying to make known. By having the eyes closed and the head so heavily laying in the palm of the woman, it is obvious that there was a great deal of pain associated with this piece. The woman in the piece has many wrinkles etched into her forehead as well. These wrinkles and creases were put there strategically to show the worriedness of the woman. It is almost as if Kathe was trying to share her feelings on war, and how it years apart families and peoples lives all over the world.http://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/collection/works/9351/
