US Army: More Than a Uniform (Blog #2)

This US Army recruit video is similar to the videos we watched in class this week. This video tells the viewer the many ways in which the US Army uniform is more than just a uniform. Throughout the video, text describes everything that an Army uniform can be to a soldier, and the many opportunities that come along with joining the Army. It calls the uniform an acceptance letter, a diploma, a secret handshake and the jersey for the greatest sports team. Similar to the videos we saw in class, this video presents being a member of the Army as honorable and brave, and as a team experience with close relationships with other soldiers. One part of the video calls it a brotherhood, with soldiers standing together in unison. Soldiers are shown as scientists, doctors, and athletes to show the many different ways one can serve in the army. I thought that the music used in this video was different than some of the videos we looked at in class. The music was patriotic, but it wasn't upbeat like the ISIS video and other US Army videos. I think that the intent of the music was to dramatize the experiences and to create a tone of bravery and honor.
The most powerful part of this video in my opinion was the very last section. The text listed the many things the Army could do for you, like make you stronger, wiser, and more respected. The last scene of the video is the word "legendary" with soldiers lined up in rows in front of the American flag. I think this is the most powerful part of the video because it leaves a lasting impression of the valiance, courage and honor that comes with being a part of the US Army.
