This political cartoon mocs how naive and unaware the American populace is to real world problems, and how easily serious issues can be forgotten for something as silly as the hostess company going out of business. It is also significant that all the people holding the Twinkie banner have "big mouths", symbolizing the fact that so many "big mouth" Americans get so invigorated over such a silly cause that they really don't even know anything about. All they know is that something they like is going away, and they break out the banners and start to scream. It's a parody of the "American" way of protest. It's not to say that there are not many intelligent individuals who protest the right way, but there are many who do not, many who open their "big mouths" about things they do not even truly understand. And then you have the normal faced, intelligent looking individuals in the corner who are worried about real issues, and yet they receive no support for their noble cause. Wrong as it is, it is none the less one of the many undeniable issues of our society, the things that matter receive no attention, the things that don't receive all the attention.
