PTSD Symptoms (Blog #4)

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you have gone through an extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death. Soldiers that came back from war are usually the patients of this anxiety disorder. After experiencing the deaths of other men and the stress of being in combat, their minds are still in the war when their bodies aren't anymore. Their are four symptoms of PTSD, the first one is reliving the event through flashbacks or dreams. These repeat frequently. The second symptom is avoidance. the person shows signs of depression, not interested in normal activities, and doesn't care about anything. The third sign is Hyper arousal. this is when the person is always scanning their surroundings, trouble falling asleep and easily startled. The last symptom is negative thoughts. The person is in constant guilt of the event and cant get over it. In a small number of cases, though, PTSD symptoms may not appear until years after the event.
