Poverty in the U.S (blog #5)

We Can Make A Difference

The definition of poverty is the state of being extremely poor. In the world today millions of people in poverty, people don't believe poverty is a big problem in the united states but that is very false, statistics show that in 2012 46.5 million people were living in poverty which is 15% of the country. the number of people living in poverty continues to increase each year, and nothing has been done to prevent this terrible problem. People of all ages are living in poverty even little children, and i bet you did'nt know a child born in poverty is 2 times more likely to die before the age of five. There has to be something done because its very possible that in a few decades half of our country will be living in poverty, just because your not living in poverty it doesnt mean you cant help the people who are.
lets talk about the outrageous statistics, 1 in every 5 children are born in poverty which is 21.8 % of children, and 1.6 million children experience homelessness per year. 14.8% of senior citizens are living in poverty and dont forget that a good amount of these seniors are war veterans who put their life on the line to protect us citizens.  the highest poverty rate by race is found my blacks, second is hispanics, and third is asians. lastly 4.3 million people with disabilities are living in poverty.
As you can tell after reading the statistics that the united states needs to work together to get the unwealthy in homes and off the streets , and give them dinner on the table for their family to survive. Many people say well it were there decisions in life that brought you where you are now or, well maybe you should find a job, or its not my fault you didnt spend your money wisely, etc. Well everybody makes mistakes in life but as a country we should come together and help those in rough times up. Do not forget that "We can make a difference".
